In Memory Of Kim Bodell
"Bonz"
Floyd
Kim Bodell, also known as Bones, or Bonz, finished up his motorcycling days with a lovely big twin named Floyd. However, he started out with a Sportster that was always breaking down. It tested his resolve and developed his sense of humor.
Many folks recall Kim riding up next to them, licking his fingers and smearing their mirror. He loved to laugh. He'd tell a joke and repeat the punch line twice, just to make sure you got it. He was there to help "set " Squirrely's new tattoo, and then ran faster than anyone could imagine.
Kim had put a lime under a friend's Triumph years ago, and always had rice handy to put under Japanese bikes just so he could tell them it was leaking. He got his though - one day a bunch of them did the oil thing under our old Sportster. The Sportster that broke every where we went. But on top of putting down oil they also put in some springs and bolts. And to make things even worse they got Daddy Rat - the man who's forgotten more about HD's than most people know - to the one to point it out to him. Daddy Rat took it even further by saying something about a crack before he busted up laughing!
Wow - I would have loved to have seen Kim's face, and the changing storm cloud of emotions, as Daddy Rat continued his narrative of woe. And just like the sun coming through after a storm, he'd have had the biggest grin of everyone in the end. Of course, I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of his pay back!
